10th birthday casino-themed party …

July 24, 2014

This article has nothing what-so-ever to do with music but for those who follow my posts will know that I’m a huge fan of the at-home birthday party.  I’ve previously posted articles on my daughter’s Rock Star and Circus themed parties.  This week I hosted my sons’s 10th birthday with a child friendly Casino party.  Here are my suggestions for anyone looking to do something similar …

I kept all games as table top games.  These included …

  • Blackjack
  • Table Tennis
  • Roulette
  • Pool
  • Air Hockey
  • Darts
  • Pin the dart on the monster

Luckily for me I live in California where good weather is guaranteed so the entire party and all the games were held outside.

I used chocolate as gambling chips.  Using money felt inappropriate but the players needed something they could place bets with.  Each player was given 30 pieces of one kind of chocolate.  I found Dove’s Silky Smooth Promises to be the best as they are round and can be stacked on top of each other.  They also come in a huge selection of colors which helped with keeping each child’s betting chips separate.  I used chocolate Rolo as the house chips.

Blackjack, Roulette and Pin the dart on the monster were games played against the house.  These stations were manned by a family member who could explain the betting odds.  Table Tennis, Pool, Air Hockey and Darts where played as one-on-one games and so the players bet against each other.

Roulette was the only game I had to purchase and I’m so glad I did as it was the biggest hit!  I purchased it through Amazon.

Pizza and a home designed cake (once again, thank you Betty Crocker) were dished out to the hungry high-rollers.

This party was a big success and a great way for my son to celebrate his first double-digit birthday.  The kids got into the spirit of the party very quickly and were quite happy to lose nearly all their chocolate chips only to have the thrill of winning them all back again.  Their winning chips were theirs to take home at the end of the party.
